Welcome
Dr. Spinks has a strong academic background that differentiates him from community neurosurgeons. He has trained at top institutions including Cornell, Columbia, and UCLA. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, and is currently on the clinical faculty at Texas A&M. He is also fellowship-trained in Pediatric Neurosurgery and offers up-to-date treatment for children as well. The academic approach to medicine involves looking at all the treatment options for every patient and working with the patient and family to select the best one. Dr. Spinks has experience with cutting-edge and technically difficult procedures beyond what local community surgeons offer. Patient Education
In truth, there are very few concepts in medicine that cannot be explained to patients, even the very young and those with limited education. The problem is that many patients and families don't have the background training necessary to understand concepts without explanation. Once the base education is provided, then the ideas that seemed difficult to understand begin to make sense and even become logical. It is crucial for patients and their families to obtain the focused education they need in order to become active members of the health care team and make informed decisions about what treatments to pursue (or avoid).
